Over the past day in the territory of the Republic of Abkhazia, no new infected with coronavirus were detected.

In Abkhazia, no new cases of COVID-19 were detected over the past day, said Alkhas Kondzharia, Deputy Head of the Medical Operational Headquarters, Deputy Minister of Health of the Republic of Abkhazia in a daily appeal to residents of Abkhazia.  Thus, today there are still two confirmed patients with COVID-19 in the RA.  Both patients are residents of Gagra, they are members of the same family.

Kondzharia said that patients infected with coronavirus continue to receive medication and are under constant medical supervision at the Gudauta Central Hospital.

“The condition of the first patient is regarded as moderate with insignificant positive dynamics. The condition of the second remains relatively satisfactory.  All contacts with patients are in strict isolation,” he said.

The deputy head of the Operational HQ added that over the past day another 10 people have been tested for coronavirus.  All have negative results.

Previously in Gagra region, where cases of COVID-19 were detected, a curfew regime was declared.  In this regard, the head of the traffic police department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Batal Agrba appealed to the population to comply with the established restrictions and recommendations to prevent the further spread of coronavirus infection in the Republic of Abkhazia.  The curfew starts at 08:00 p.m. and ends at 07:00 a.m.  Persons who violate the established curfew regime will be detained until it ends.

Since March 24, 2020, the leadership of Abkhazia has taken a set of measures to protect the population of Abkhazia from the coronavirus infection COVID-19 - in particular, mass events were discontinued, educational institutions were disbanded, government agencies were restricted, retail outlets were closed, with the exception of food and essential goods, and  also pharmacies,  movement of citizens was limited, a number of other measures have been taken.

Since March 28, a state of emergency has been introduced in the Republic: the Abkhaz-Russian border has been temporarily closed for crossing, with the exception of military personnel and diplomats, control over crossing the state border has been strengthened for citizens of Abkhazia returning to the Republic.

The charity movement “We are Together” and representatives of the Moscow Abkhaz Diaspora, newly created by Abkhaz entrepreneurs, announced a fundraiser to help Abkhazia fight the new disease and protect the population of Abkhazia.  To date, nearly 50 million rubles have been raised.
