Operational Headquarters for the protection of the population from coronavirus infection reported that three more people fell ill with COVID-19 in Abkhazia, one died.

According to operational data, as of July 31, three new cases of coronavirus infection were detected in Abkhazia.  One of the previously ill patients died at the Gudauta Central District Hospital.  This was announced by the Headquarters for the protection of the population from coronavirus infection.

The deceased patient with a confirmed diagnosis of COVID-19 was 79 years old, he was admitted to the Gudauta hospital from the cardiology department of the Sukhum Municipal Hospital on July 26 in a serious condition.

“The severity of the condition was associated with the development of bilateral polysegmental covid-associated pneumonia, as well as severe chronic heart disease and [heart] rhythm disturbances.  On the last day, the patient's condition deteriorated acutely with an increase in respiratory failure, he was transferred to invasive artificial ventilation, but resuscitation measures did not give the desired effect.  The patient died from increasing respiratory and cardiovascular failure,” the message says.

According to the Headquarters, over the past day, testing for coronavirus infection was carried out among 26 citizens, the diagnosis of COVID-19 was confirmed in three people.
 The survey of all contact persons is ongoing.

 “At the moment, there are 17 patients with confirmed coronavirus infection in the Gudauta Central District Hospital,” the Operational Headquarters said.

The total number of detected cases of coronavirus in Abkhazia today is 84 people.  Of these, 37 recovered, 3 died.
