Mussa Ekzekov, Chairman of the Supreme Council of the World Abaza Congress, called on the people of Abkhazia and all the political forces of the country to unite in the name of the future of the Republic.

Mussa Ekzekov, Chairman of the Supreme Council of the World Abaza Congress, expressed the position of the WAC in relation to the political situation in Sukhum, saying that the most important thing now is to ensure an open and lawful election process for the new leadership of the Republic at the upcoming elections on March 22, 2020, and also called on the people of Abkhazia and all political forces unite in the name of the future of the country.

“The WAC was anxiously watching the political crisis that erupted in the Republic of Abkhazia in recent days (we are talking about the events of January 9–13 of the current year, which resulted in the resignation of President Raul Khadzhimba and the decision to call for new presidential elections - ed.).  We do not give assessments of the events and their participants.  Everyone in the conflict had their own arguments.  However, all disputes must be resolved in an open and honest dialogue within the framework of the law,” Ekzekov emphasized.

He recalled that the World Abaza Congress is an organization that has as its main goal the unification of Abkhaz, Abaza and related peoples around the world.  The unity of the people, which during its history went through many difficult trials and hardships, the WAC considers the main value of both the ethnos itself and the Congress.

“The formation of a strong civil society is one of the most important goals of the WAC.  Only an active and united in its aspirations society can ensure the development of Abkhazia, the well-being of the people,” Ekzekov expressed confidence.

In his opinion, it is extremely important now that all processes in Abkhazia come to the legal fold.  Mussa Ekzekov emphasized that candidates for a high presidency in the upcoming elections, first of all, should provide the people of Abkhazia with a clear vision of how to develop the country and a well-thought-out work plan.  The future president should unite people and lead them to prosperity, the Chairman of the Supreme Council of the WAC is convinced.

“The Congress is a non-political organization, but, of course, we are ready to assist in the development of decisions on the development of the state in the interests of the people of the Republic.  In 2020, the WAC intends to strengthen its work in Abkhazia, Russia and other countries where the Abkhaz-Abaza Diaspora is located.  We have extensive social and cultural programs, a lot of work is being done to preserve and develop the language.  We are successfully advancing in the matter of uniting compatriots abroad.  Our plans and tasks are unchanged, and we will cooperate with all the political forces of Abkhazia, who care about the future of the people and their prosperity,” said the Chairman of the Supreme Council of the WAC.

On January 13, the Parliament of Abkhazia accepted the resignation of the President of the Republic Raul Khadzhimba.  Temporarily, the powers and duties of the president are assigned to the Prime Minister Valery Bganba. The election of the new leader of the country will be held on March 22, 2020 in Abkhazia.
