The deadline for accepting applications for the “Ethnoart: one and indivisible” contest, organized by the WAC jointly with the ANO “Alashara”, has been extended until July 15.

“Ethnoart” is a drawing contest, the best of which will be taken as a sketch for a large-scale image in the graffiti technique on one of the buildings of the capital of Abkhazia. The theme of the picture is “The One and Indivisible Abkhaz-Abaza People”.

The curator of the project, the chairman of the regional branch of the WAC in St. Petersburg, Temur Rekvava, explained that the dates were changed due to the decision to change the surface for drawing the picture. Now, a sketch of the winner is planned to be applied on one of the walls of a residential building on 11 Voronova Street in Sukhum.

One of the tenants of this house, Damey Dzhonua, said that when he and his neighbors (Housing Unity “University” - ed.) heard that a competition had been announced, took the initiative and applied to the WAC to use the unsightly front wall of their residential building for graffiti.

“We appealed to the Congress, to all competent authorities, agreed with the City Administration on all the necessary nuances and received a go-ahead. We had a desire to refine our house, in particular, this wall, which had not been repaired for many years,” explained Dzhonua.

Before drawing the image by Congress, the wall will be repaired, he added.

“We ourselves will actively take part in the selection of the picture and hope that the residents of our country will also be active and send many sketches,” concluded Damey Dzhonua.

The organizers recall the main goals of the contest: to strengthen the ethnocultural unity of the Abkhaz-Abaza people and to attract the attention of talented people to solving issues of improving the image of the Abkhaz capital. Entries must necessarily be with elements of national culture. All the details of the competition are available in the Competition Regulations.

“Already since May 15, people send their work to the competition. Participants can be people of any age from around the world. Drawings and sketches are accepted in any technique and colors. All drawings must be signed: last name, first name, age, telephone number and address of the participant’s residence,” Temur Rekvava reminded.

The organizing committee of the competition will select sketches for online voting, scheduled from 10:00 am on July 27 until 10:00 am on August 5 on the website of the World Abaza Congress (www.abaza.org).

Interim results of the vote will be displayed on the portal of the Congress in real time. The participant with the most votes in the network will be the winner. His name will be announced on August 5th. The winner will receive a certificate and the main prize: one of the leading companies in artistic drawing and graffiti of Russia “Make Good” will put his sketch in the form of graffiti on a facade wall with an area of more than 270 square meters in Sukhum.

Finished works can be transferred to the organizers by leaving them in the WAC office at the address: Sukhum, 109 Lakoba Street, second floor (building of the Ministry of Taxes of the Republic of Abkhazia – ed.) from 10:00 to 18:00 or sent by email to info.abk@abaza.org in high resolution. Works are accepted until 00:00 on July 15, 2019 inclusive.

The organizers note that in case of successful completion of the competition, he “will definitely get a second wind,” that is, his ideas will be developed and continued.
