Delegates of the I Congress declared that the Abaza ethnic group can be preserved only by returning representatives of the Diaspora to their historical homeland. At the same time, it was noted that this process should be carried out on the basis of generally accepted norms in the world community.

The first meeting of the Executive Committee of the World Association of the Abaza People or the International Association of the Abkhaz-Abaza People (IAAAP), as it subsequently became known, was held on October 9, 1992 in Gudauta. At the meeting was adopted the Charter, which reflected the main objectives of the organization: the revival of the ethno-cultural unity of the Abkhaz-Abaza (Abaza) people; creation of necessary conditions for the voluntary return to the historical homeland of representatives of the Diaspora; participation of compatriots in the economic, social and cultural development of Abkhazia; restoration of true history, preservation of national identity, traditions and customs of the Abkhaz-Abaza (Abaza) people.

The IV World Congress of the Abkhaz-Abaza (Abaza) People was held in Sukhum on September 29, 2003. Vladislav Ardzinba noted that the Congress successfully performs work on the unification of peoples, and its main goal is the creation of a common spiritual, cultural, political basis.

On October 6, 2006, IAAAP sent a letter to the UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan and the international community with a call to pay attention to the need to address the issue of the return of Abkhaz repatriates to their historical homeland.

In the letter, in particular, it was noted that in the second half of the XIX century, as a result of the Caucasian War, Abkhazians and Abazins were forcibly expelled from their native land, after which Abkhazia was inhabited by Georgians. "This event changed the demographic balance in Abkhazia and spurred the imperial ambitions of Georgia, which resulted in a bloody war between the two peoples," the document says.
