For the first time in Abkhazia, a republican international tournament in the Abkhazian national game "Aimhakachara" was held.

This is the name of a team ball game, reminiscent of modern rugby. According to the rules of the competition, team captains knock down a small felt ball with wooden sticks, while trying to throw it to their teammate. The one who catches it must run to the finish line as quickly as possible and not get caught by opponents who are trying to possess the ball.

The revival and popularization of national sports is not just entertainment and not just propaganda of a healthy lifestyle, it is also about national spirituality. National sports carry a certain moral load, develop patriotism in young people, and build character and will.

From September 4 to 6, an "Aimtsakiachara" national game international tournament was held at the capital's Dynamo stadium. However, a lot of work, which was and is being carried out by the WAC team, preceded this significant event: studying the material, creating a set of rules, releasing the "Aimtsakiachara" documentary, conducting training and master classes continued for three years. The successful project also interested the country's leadership. The State Committee for Repatriation and the State Committee for Youth and Sports joined its implementation. One of the stages of the implementation of the "Abkhazian National Games" project was holding master classes in Turkey from June 28 to July 11. The head of the youth development and physical education department of the WAC Valery Berzeniia, a methodologist for Abkhazian national games, director of the Abkhazian Radio Adgur Gumba, as well as director Daut Logua attended the trip, organized jointly with the State Committee for Repatriation.

The team held master classes on the Abkhazian national game "Aimtsakiachara" in various villages of the Sakarya province - the region where the representatives of the Abkhazian Diaspora live. After the master classes, a team of 15 people was created, which began serious preparation for participation in the tournament in their historical homeland.

Three days of sports, acquaintances, pushing each other and competitive spirit created a special atmosphere on the pitch and beyond. Eight teams from our country, as well as the Abkhazian team from the Turkish Republic met and battled for the championship in the final.

Head of the Department of Youth Development and Physical Culture of the WAC Valery Berzeniia shared his impressions of the tournament:

"It is gratifying to admit that the game has acquired a serious status. This is no longer an entertainment; it is an independent sports discipline. It is even more pleasant to consider yourself involved in all this. All the people respected the game and each other. It is clear that the participants approached the tournament seriously; even their physical changes are noticeable. The level of preparation of some teams is surprising. The feelings are incredible," Berzeniia said.

Teams from the villages of Kutol, Achandara, Pakuash, Chlou, Duripsh, the town of Novy Afon, Sukhum School No. 1, Sukhum School No. 5 and a visiting team from the Republic of Turkey took part in the championship.

Head of the Department for Work with Local Representatives Dmitry Zhiba told about how they prepared for the tournament:

"We have been working on the revival of Abkhazian national games for more than three years. The flagship of all these games is precisely "Aimtsakiachara". We studied the materials, developed certain rules and created a methodological manual, traveled to the towns and villages of our country, held master classes. We also held friendly matches in Sukhum and a republican tournament in the ethnopark in the village of Mgudzyrkhua. And today the "Aimtsakiachara" international championship is already taking place with the participation of a team from the Republic of Turkey," said Zhiba

Head of the Sukhum office of the WAC Temur Rekvava noted the importance of holding the tournament

"Today is a big holiday - a holiday that we have been working towards for three years. A great job has been done. We wrote the rules almost from scratch and now, just now, the process of registering the Federation of Abkhazian National Games is underway. This is a historic day. It is important to note that thanks to the State Committee for Repatriation, a team of representatives of our Diaspora in Turkey has been formed. We hope that this will become a good tradition and this national, original, unique sport will grow and develop further. The World Abaza Congress is working towards bringing our people from all corners of the world closer together and uniting them in different directions. This step towards unification through sports is a great success," he noted.

Amazing dynamism, thirst for struggle and here we have the finalist. The first "Aimtsakiachara" international tournament champion is the team from the village of Chlou. Second place went to the Abkhazian Diaspora team from Turkey. Teams from Novy Afon and Sukhum School No. 5 shared third place.

The tournament participants were awarded cups, medals, certificates and memorable gifts.

The tournament is over, but the celebration continues. There are still dances, songs and festivities ahead. Excursion routes to the most beautiful places of our homeland have been organized for guests from Turkey.
