The main center of attraction and the largest venue of the festival was the “Apsny” ethnopark. On its territory, Abkhazian craftsmen presented a variety of products - pottery, knives, musical instruments, drinks, jams, national cuisine, so each festival participant was able to join the tastings and stock up on souvenirs.
The festival program included many events for every taste - musical performances, exhibitions, fairs, master classes and, perhaps, the most unusual entertainment - a balloon flight.
In each location, bright compositions of tangerines, which became a symbol of a large-scale winter holiday pleased the eye. The most important citrus art object was located on the square in front of the Abkhazian Drama Theater in Sukhum.
To create this unusual New Year tree, it took no less than one and a half tons of tangerines. The five-meter tree became a record-breaking height in the world.
The organizer of the festival is the Autonomous Non-Commercial Organization Center for Social and Cultural Projects "ATSLA".
"The goals of the festival are to create a unique winter holiday, expand the significance of Abkhazia on the world cultural stage, introduce Abkhazian culture and traditions, stimulate the development of agriculture and tourism industry and the country's economy in the winter time," said the director of the festival Svetlana Gabuniia.
According to her, the program was selected for the target audience so that absolutely every guest could find leisure for the soul.
The Mandarin Festival will last until January 8. It will cover a number of regions of the republic. In addition to the ethnopark, events will be held at the “Sofia” state farm and on the “Marnero” beach. Participants will be able to enjoy performances by Abkhazian pop stars, try archery, visit citrus plantations, various exhibitions, thematic evenings and master classes. As part of the festival, on January 4, the ethnopark will show ethnographic films from the World Abaza Congress.
