With the end of the academic year in the country’s schools, the WAC and the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Abkhazia completed the first stage of clinical examination.
Among the number of planned villages for the first half of the year, the final ones were the schoolchildren and teachers of the village of Duripsh. They donated blood for a general analysis and glucose level, and also underwent a comprehensive health examination for the purpose of prevention and early diagnosis of various diseases.
The schoolchildren were examined by pediatricians Rogova Natalia, Otyrba Angelina, endocrinologists Ankvab Renata, Dzhikirba Khamida, ophthalmologist Sanguliia Fatima, cardiologist Lakerbaya Oksana, ENT doctor Mikanba Lana, ultrasound diagnostician Gabova Larisa, neurologists Kondzhariia Saida, Khodzhava Albina, urologist Shamba Khadzharat, rehabilitation specialist Agrba Arzadin, as well as an ECG nurse Dzhopua Ella Ruslanovna.
Naur Khishba, specialist of the WAC department for education, social activity and health, shared the results of the medical examination carried out since the beginning of this project.
“In total, since the beginning of the medical examination project, more than 2,400 village residents have undergone a medical examination, of which about 2,100 people are school-age children and more than 300 people are teachers. Altogether, during our work we visited 24 settlements within the project and this year we have already visited 5. More than 90 medical specialists and more than 50 volunteers helped us to carry out this tremendous work,” he noted.
Khishba expressed special gratitude to the Chairman of the Supreme Council of the WAC Mussa Ekzekov for the opportunity to implement the project, and also thanked the WAC team for their support.
“I would also like to mention that over several months of work in 2024 alone, more than 700 thousand rubles from the personal funds of the Chairman of the Supreme Council of the WAC Mussa Ekzekov were invested in the implementation of the project. During each trip, each doctor is accompanied by a volunteer or an employee of the WAC office, who records the doctor’s data on the patient’s health status. Later, this data is processed and transferred both to district pediatricians for treatment of specific children, and to the Ministry of Health of Abkhazia because medical examination is, as we often like to say, a very important source of information about the health of the population. It helps the state to plan the burden that will fall on the country’s healthcare system in the next 5-10 years,” he said.
The head of the WAC OSAZ department, Izolda Khagba, thanked all the specialists who contributed to the development of the project and made its implementation possible.
“The main people without whom this project would not have taken place are doctors, to whom we express our profound thanks for their support, the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Abkhazia, in particular, Saida Yuryevna Delba, Esma Yuryevna Guniia, the Medlife laboratory responsible for quality tests. I also want to thank the Alba-Med center and its director Albina Khodzhava, who often provides us not only with doctors, but also helps with devices and equipment. “I would also like to thank all my colleagues from the World Abaza Congress for their constant support and the head of the WAC SC Mussa Ekzekov for supporting the project,” she said.
According to Khagba, more and more people are leaving positive feedback from the project, many are treating health problems diagnosed as part of the medical examination. Timely identification of pathologies and compliance with specialist recommendations is a step towards the health of a child, family and nation.
“It is especially pleasant to note that, following our examinations, many have undergone surgeries, many have undergone additional examinations, and parents are treating their children. Actually, this is what the project was intended for. The initial examination allows parents to monitor more carefully the health of their children, and our children in general, because there is no such thing as other people’s children. These are the children who will build our state, and they should be healthy,” she added.
The World Abaza Congress launched the project in March 2023. The medical examination is aimed at providing qualified medical care to students and teachers of rural schools in Abkhazia.
