The Chairman of the Supreme Council of the World Abaza Congress expressed condolences to the relatives and friends of the Abkhazian Prime Minister Gennady Gagulia, who died tragically on September 8.

The Chairman of the Supreme Council of the World Abaza Congress, Mussa Ekzekov, expressed his sincere condolences to the family, relatives and friends of the Prime Minister of Abkhazia Gennady Gagulia in connection with his tragic death.

Ekzekov noted that the outstanding statesman Gennady L. Gagulia made a significant contribution to strengthening the statehood and social and economic development of the Republic of Abkhazia.

«It is difficult to overestimate his participation in the formation of a positive image of Abkhazia. The untimely passing of a person of this scale is an irreplaceable loss for the entire Abkhazian people,» Mussa Ekzekov said.

The Chairman of the Supreme Council of the Congress added that the memory of the Prime Minister - a true patriot - would be alive for every contemporary of him. Ekzekov also expressed confidence that Gennady Gagulia's initiatives will live in numerous socially significant matters for the benefit of the people of Apsny.

The Prime Minister of Abkhazia Gennady Gagulia died in an accident on September 8 on the stretch of the Psou-Sukhum road. He was in the car of a motorcade returning from Sochi airport after the official visit of the leadership of the Republic of Abkhazia to Syria.

Gennady Gagulia was born on January 4, 1948 in the village of Lykhny.

In 1972 he graduated from the building faculty of the Belarusian Polytechnic Institute.
In 1977-1986 he was deputy director of the Catering Combine on Lake Ritsa. From 1986 to 1991 he worked as chairman of the Gudauta regional consumer cooperation.

Since 1991, he was chairman of the State Committee for Foreign Economic Relations of the Abkhaz ASSR. In 1992-1995 - Deputy Chairman of the Council of Ministers of Abkhazia, from 1995 to 1997 - Prime Minister of the Republic. Since 1997 he worked as an assistant to the deputy of the State Duma of Russia. In 2002 he headed the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Abkhazia, from 2002 to 2003 he held the post of Prime Minister of Abkhazia.

In 2003-2004 he was the head of the Administration of the President of Abkhazia. Since 2005, he again headed the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Abkhazia.

Gennady Gagulia was the Prime Minister of Abkhazia since April 24, 2018.
