The book “The Path of Wisdom and Courage” about the life and activities of the second President of Abkhazia Sergey Bagapsh was presented in Cherkessk on Monday, July 22. The author of the book is a well-known journalist, a professor at the Abkhaz State University, Ekaterina Bebia.

Presenting the publication at the meeting, she noted how happy she was about it and welcomed the brotherly Abaza people, quoting the famous poet Vladimir Ankvab: “I worship the people of Abaza.”

“Considering (Sergey Bagapsh’s) special attitude towards the Abaza, his active participation in the social and political life of his kindred people, it was important for us to hold this event in Cherkessk, in the assembly hall of the Press House, where he had been more than once,” said Bebia.

She said that the materials for a book about the Abkhaz leader and his family began to be collected during the life of the politician; however, Bagapsh himself, being a modest person, did not consider them something valuable for replication.

“Sergey Vasilievich has always been a supporter of the traditional values of “Apsuara” (the code of honor of the Abkhaz - ed.),” the author explained.

According to Ekaterina Bebia, Bagapsh’s contribution to the formation and development of the statehood of Abkhazia is difficult to overestimate. Other participants of the presentation agreed with her.

In particular, the chairman of the Union of Journalists of the Karachay-Cherkess Republic, the editor-in-chief of the newspaper in the Circassian language “Cherkess Heku”, a veteran of the Patriotic War of the people of Abkhazia Uvzhuk Thagapsov noted the historical importance of the figure of Sergey Bagapsh as one of the leaders of the Abkhaz people.

“It is gratifying to realize, and it is very important that after the irreplaceable leader Vladislav Grigorievich Ardzinba, Abkhazia had such a worthy son who was able to continue his work, to become a reliable bulwark and strength for his people. Having such leaders, there is no doubt that Abkhazia has enormous potential for its development and prosperity as an independent state,” he said.

The well-known Abkhaz poet Gunda Sakania compared Sergey Bagapsh with Sasrykua, the hero of the Narts Epos, who, according to the legend, tore a star for his people and tragically died for his land.

She noted that “God sends such people to the earth for high, humane and heroic accomplishments.”

Everyone who knew Sergey Bagapsh spoke about his human qualities, his special, warm attitude towards the Abaza people, as well as about his contribution to the formation of the Abaza municipal district as an administrative-territorial unit.

One of those who spoke especially closely with Sergey Bagapsh during his lifetime - Oleg Etlukhov, doctor of economics, consul of the Republic of Abkhazia in the North Caucasus in 2004-2011, also attended the event. He recalled the second Abkhaz President as a unique politician who had incredible success and respect from his people, who developed good-neighborly relations between Abkhazia and the KChR.

“Sergey Vasilyevich has repeatedly met with the leadership of our Republic (Karachay-Cherkessia - ed.), with representatives of the state power of the Russian Federation on many pressing problems of the Abaza and effectively solved them. He will forever remain in our memory as a worthy politician and the son of our people,” said Etlukhov.

The meeting was attended by students of the Faculty of Journalism of the Abkhaz State University who arrived in the composition of the delegation from Sukhum. Student Ratkha Matua shared with the meeting participants that she “feels at home.” Following the rest of the speakers, she called Sergey Bagapsh “a substantial person.”

“After reading this book, you can understand exactly how to go the path of wisdom and courage,” said the girl.

The presentation of the book was attended by representatives of the scientific and creative intelligentsia of the Karachay-Cherkess Republic, the media, veterans of the Patriotic War of the people of Abkhazia, leaders and members of Abaza public organizations, youth.

The author of the book is Ekaterina Bebia - Honored Journalist of the Republic of Abkhazia, Doctor of Philology, Professor at the Abkhaz State University.
