The delegates from the WAC visited the prominent representative of the Abkhaz nation Adile Abbas-oglu on her birthday on April 23 and congratulated her on the 99th anniversary.

Warm Abkhaz, almost family reception, champagne and sentimental stories from the life of Adile were awaiting the representatives of the World Abaza congress in the house of Abbas-oglu.  It is worth noting that all the guests on this day were met in the hall of historical significance.  The family does not intend to make repairs in it in order to preserve the authenticity of this room.  It’s walls “remember” many conversations and family evenings in which Nestor Lakoba himself took part.

Despite her advanced age, Adile Abbas-oglu is always happy to welcome guests and welcomes everyone with love.  Adile Abbas-oglu met the WAC delegation with the words: “I love you, thank you for coming, thank you for remembering.  I love you”.

On this day, the closest friends and relatives gathered around the outstanding woman.  They did not miss the opportunity to hug their “great Adile”.  Those who are not around, called her by phone and sent beautiful bouquets of flowers.

“On Mom's birthday, there are always a lot of greetings and flowers.  It is very nice.  It is important to know that they remember, it is especially pleasant that the younger generation is interested in [mom and her life].  Thank you,” said Adile Abbas-oglu’s daughter Lilya.

The head of the Women's Council of the World Abaza Congress, Geta Ardzinba, noted that it is very important to keep in mind the “outstanding people of an entire era” and be near them as long as possible.

“Adile Abbas-oglu is an example of female endurance. Contrary to all the hardships of fate, unthinkable trials, having survived them, she lived to be 99 years old.  We perceive this day as our common holiday, therefore we are here.  It is very important that [people] re-read her books, remember what our society experienced in the 1930s.  We want very much to congratulate dear Adile Abbas-oglu on the 100th anniversary,” said Ardzinba.

Adile Abbas-oglu is a member of the family of the legendary Soviet leader of Abkhazia Nestor Lakoba, the daughter-in-law of his spouse Saria Lakoba (nee Dzhikh-ogly), the only survivor of all members of this family.  In 1938, she was declared an “enemy of the people” because she was related to Nestor Lakoba, and was repressed.  In 1953, after a 16-year exile, Abbas-oglu returned to Sukhum.

Adile Abbas-oglu is the author of several books, including the book of memoirs “I Can't Forget”.  Today Adile lives in Sukhum in the same house of her grandfather.  Over the past months, she has almost completely lost her sight, but with persistence characteristic to her, she encounters every new day.
