There will be cybersport in Abkhazia! The second DOTA-2 "A-MAJOR" tournament will be held in Abkhazia from August 5 to 11. However, this is not the main news.
This year's tournament will differ from the previous one, because users from Abkhazia will be able to participate under the Abkhazian logo with the inscription"Dota 2 Tournament in the beautiful country of soul Abkhazia".
DOTA-2 is a computer multiplayer game developed and published by VALVE Corporation. The game involves two teams of five people trying to destroy the other team's "Throne". During the match, players fight with opponents, as well as enemy and neutral "creeps". Kills bring experience and gold, which allows to unlock new abilities and buy useful items. Each match involves 10 heroes. There is no division into rounds or even time frames in the Dota. A game can last from 15 minutes to several hours, but on average it takes a little less than an hour.
The game is also distinguished by large prize pools. For example, the eSports record was set in 2021, when teams played for 40 million US dollars.
The head of the WAC department for work with youth and physical education Valery Berzeniia told about how the Abkhazian League officially became a participant in perhaps one of the most famous computer games in the world and why this event is significant for users.
"For 3 years now, the eSports community of Abkhazia has been holding Dota-2 tournaments. 2024 is especially significant for everyone united by this game in Abkhazia. After all, two important events took place. This year, the Association of Cybersports of the Republic of Abkhazia (ACRA) was officially established.
And most importantly, the founders of the game approved our request and created the "A-MAJOR" league. That is, when watching a Dota-2 tournament and opening the amateur tab, there is now an Abkhazian league "A-MAJOR".
Thus, all the guys playing in the tournament are in the general database of players with the description "Dota 2 Tournament in the beautiful country of soul Abkhazia," Berzeniia said.
As Berzeniia noted, there are many talented young people in Abkhazia who could compete at the international level.
"Cybersports are becoming increasingly popular. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has already officially approved the creation of the Olympic eSports. There are many talented young people in Abkhazia who, with the further worldwide development of cybersports, will be able to worthily represent our country on completely different virtual platforms and will most likely be able to participate in high-level tournaments," he said.
Nine teams will take part in the second "A-MAJOR" eSports tournament with a prize fund of 200 thousand rubles. The tournament is organized by the VOID gaming club and the Association of Cybersports of the Republic of Abkhazia and is held with the support of the mobile operator "A-mobile".
