Abkhaz language courses were successfully completed at the A.M. Agumaa Gal Secondary School No. 1. The classes were the result of a project on the fundamentals of social design implemented by the Congress team.
The language courses were preceded by a training on the fundamentals of social design, which the WAC held in 2024. During the two-day intensive course, social design specialists Lana Chkadua and Mate Tskvitariia introduced students from Gal School No. 1 to the fundamentals of design and explained the importance of gaining this knowledge. Participants were divided into teams, developed projects, and presented them to the committee members. The winning project was a project on learning the Abkhaz language.
Project supervisor Esma Kvitsiniia, a specialist in the Department of Youth and Physical Education, emphasized the project's relevance.
"The Abkhaz language courses in Gal are proof of how relevant and important social design training is for schoolchildren. In two days, the participants mastered the logic of the project-based approach, learned to see connections, and formulate objectives. They created a successful project that benefited many students at their school. All this work is a result of the knowledge they gained about social design."
In conclusion, Kvitsiniia thanked everyone involved in the project.
"I would like to express special gratitude to all partners – the Public Center for Social Initiatives, the State Committee for Youth and Sports of the Republic of Abkhazia, and social design trainers Lana Chkadua, Mata Tskvitariia, and Naida Abidova – for their enormous contribution to the project. Our joint work on this project is an evidence of what can be achieved when people unite for the good of society," she concluded.
The six-month Abkhaz language course was held for high school students. Classes were taught by Sariya Khashig, chief specialist of the Compatriots Registration Department of the State Repatriation Committee. Each lesson lasted 45-50 minutes. The teacher used innovative teaching methods: watching and analyzing cartoons together, playing language games, and learning song lyrics.
Sariya Khashig shared her impressions of working with the students.
"I was invited to the project as a teacher. It was very nerve-wracking at first. But we found common ground together with students; I would even say we became friends. I tried to create more interactive activities for them – we watched cartoons in Abkhaz, played various games, and learned song lyrics. This helped the students expand their vocabulary and memorize many new words," noted Khashig.
Over the course of six months, the students significantly improved their language skills and began speaking more fluently. At the farewell meeting, the students expressed their sincere gratitude to the teacher.
"We've been studying the Abkhaz language for six months. During this time, I can definitely see that my knowledge has improved, and I've become more fluent. I'm very grateful to our teacher, and on behalf of the entire group, I want to say that we will miss her and the classes," said one of the students.
Training on the fundamentals of social design is one of the key projects of the WAC. In 2024, the State Committee for Youth and Sports of the Republic of Adygeya became a partner in the project. In 2025, the “Public Center for Social Initiatives”, an autonomous non-profit organization from Kamensk-Shakhtinsky, Rostov Region, joined the collaboration. This collaboration resulted in a series of on-site training sessions on project-based activities. As a result, many rural youth initiatives received support and were implemented, and several schools now are equipped with leisure centers.
