In the framework of the Decade of literature and art of the peoples of the Karachay-Cherkess Republic, timed to the 100th anniversary of the autonomous region, the opening of the days of Abaza literature and art "To the living fires of the native hearth" was held in Cherkessk.

The Days of Abaza Literature and Art “To the Living Fires of the Native Hearth” opened in the Bayramukova State National Library of the Karachay-Cherkessian National University in Cherkessk on February 6. The event takes place within the framework of the Decade of Literature and Art of the People of the KChR, timed to the 100th anniversary of the Karachay-Cherkess Autonomous Region.

Opening the solemn event, a member of the Writers' Union and the Union of Journalists of Russia, director of the library, Salykh Khapchaev, told about the events planned for the current year, “aimed at preserving the language, culture and art of all peoples traditionally living in the republic”.

“For us, this year is particularly significant with many historical events, this is the 100th anniversary of the formation of the Karachay-Cherkess Autonomous Region and the declared Year of Friendship between the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic and Karachay-Cherkessia and the Year of Theater”, he noted.

The event was attended by the Minister of Culture of the KChR Ramazan Borokov, the Minister of National Affairs, Mass Communications and Press of the KChR Murat Hapishtov and other cultural and educational figures, as well as representatives of national public organizations of the republic.

One of the guests of the festive event, the head of public organization of Ossetians of the KChR “Farn”, Oleg Khetagurov, spoke about the importance of holding such events, which “apart from preserving their language and culture, are also specifically aimed at bringing together, harmonizing inter-ethnic relations.”

“We all live side by side and must respect and appreciate each other, and thanks to such meetings we will be able to solve even more tasks for the benefit of the development of our peoples,” he stressed.

As part of the decade of Abaza literature and art, there was also a book-illustrated exhibition “We Are Connected Forever by One Destiny,” which presents the work of prominent Abaza poets and writers, periodicals and novelties that have been received by the library over the past year.

One of the important parts of the event was the literary evening “The Poet Beyond the Time”, dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the birth of the famous Abaza poet Kerim Mkhtse. To this significant date the exposition was opened, which included books and articles about the life and work of Mkhtse and collections of his works.

During the meeting, the head of the separate division “Alashara” in the KChR presented the guests and organizers of the evening two new editions - the trilogy of Pasarbi Tsekov “Revenge of the mountain village” and a collection of poems by Kerim Mkhtse “I’m coming back”, published with the support of the International Association “Alashara”.

The festive event was supplemented with folk songs and dances, national ceremonies and an exhibition of works by Abaza masters of decorative and applied art.

The exhibitions timed to the Days of Abaza Literature and Art will be open to the public at the Bayramukova State National Library of the KChR until February 15.
