Evening of the Abkhaz-Abaza Diaspora of St. Petersburg was held for the first time at the initiative of the WAC.

The meeting of representatives of the Abkhaz-Abaza ethnos, organized at the initiative of the World Abaza Congress, was first held in St. Petersburg on Sunday, November 11.

Assistant Chairman of the Supreme Council of the WAC, Kan Tania, spoke about the main goal of the event: acquaintance and networking of representatives of the Abkhaz-Abaza people living in St. Petersburg. Tania stressed that «the task was accomplished,» moreover, the prospects for further communication and various associations became apparent.

«For example, the idea of creating the Abkhaz-Abaza folk dance ensemble, a sports team to participate in the next games of the Abaza people, was voiced. We are convinced that new acquaintances will surely grow into friendship, new ideas and projects will be born that will be implemented, including with the assistance of the WAC,» said Kan Tania.

Kan Tania also said that the evening included a concert in which Abkhaz and Abaza artists living in St. Petersburg, as well as the local Adyg folk dance group «Nar« performed.

The meeting was attended by the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Republic of Abkhazia in the Russian Federation Igor Akhba. He expressed the opinion that such evenings contribute to the unification of representatives of the Abkhaz-Abaza people not only in St. Petersburg, but also in all countries of residence of the Diaspora.

«I am delighted. I wanted to dance with young artists! Everything was superbly designed. I am happy that I participated in this event,» the Ambassador added.

Akhba highlighted the important role of the WAC in preserving the language, culture and traditions of the Abkhaz-Abaza people, as well as in disseminating truthful information about Abkhazia.

Shamil Kurbanov, the Permanent Representative of KChR in St. Petersburg, who also attended the event, in turn, spoke about the significance of such meetings.

«It is important to hold these events so that everyone can see each other more often, meet each other and show each other what we can do. Meet in joyful atmosphere», - concluded Kurbanov.

The head of the Separate Division of the ANO «Alashara» in KChR, Murat Mukov, noted that representatives of the Abkhaz-Abaza ethnic group are scattered around the world and it is necessary to take active steps to unite them.

«If we want to unite the people, so that the people would go together in a united way and solve their problems, then they need to be united everywhere in the world. We are pleased to be here and watch our brothers gathering and organizing such an important event,» he believes.

A lot of young people came to the meeting - mainly, they are students of universities in St. Petersburg, representatives of the Abaza people. All noted the special atmosphere of this day.

«There is not enough sun in St. Petersburg, and when you find yourself at such events, there is a feeling that the Abkhazian sun is here. We should not forget each other and support in every way,» said Arina Chkadua, a student from Abkhazia.

Over 120 people took part in the first meeting of Abkhazians and Abazins of St. Petersburg, held in such a wide format.
