The head and chief editor of the Web Information portal of the World Abaza Congress Amina Lazba summed up the work of the WAC portal in 2019 and talked about plans for the future.
First of all, she noted that the WAC Web Information portal is a unique project in its concept, both in Abkhazia and beyond.
The chief editor emphasized that the Infoportal not only covers the activities of the organization and talks about the history, culture and prominent representatives of the Abaza people, but also acts as a kind of social network and a platform for communication between registered users, and all this is “carried out in six languages spoken by representatives of Abkhaz-Abaza Diaspora in 50 countries of the world.”
“Summing up, I can say that everything planned for 2019 was implemented. In particular, the main task of the outgoing year was to launch an Arabic version of the site, which was difficult from a technical point of view, and it has been working successfully since September. It is worth noting that we are actively read in English, Turkish and Arabic, that is, in those languages in which up-to-date relevant information about our country and our people on the Internet has not existed so far. This is another factor in the uniqueness of our resource, the possibilities of which are already quite large today, and the potential is even greater,” said the head of the Information portal.
Kan Taniya summarized the work of the WAC Office and reported on incomes and expenses
She added that in 2019, citizens of Abkhazia, Russia and Turkey had the opportunity to pay membership fees through the portal directly online (in accordance with the Charter of the WAC, the membership fee is $ 2 or 100 rubles per year - ed.). In 2020, citizens of those countries where new Regional Congress offices were opened in 2019 will have the same opportunity.
According to Amina Lazba, more than two thousand materials in all languages have been published on the website during the life of the resource. In 2019, it was visited by about 70 thousand unique users, these indicators are constantly growing. The top ten countries from which users access the Portal are Abkhazia, Russia, Turkey, Georgia, Ireland, the USA, Germany, Egypt, Jordan and the United Kingdom. The information portal is also quite actively read in general in the EU countries and in countries such as the United Arab Emirates, Israel, India, South Korea, China, Japan. This list includes even Canada and Australia, and Brazil from Latin America.
“I am often asked about the next language in which our portal will broadcast. So far, there are no such plans for the near future, because working with multilingual sites is not only one of the most expensive, but also one of the most difficult activities: launching one language version takes about a year. However, of course, we would like to be read sometime in Chinese and Spanish. These languages occupy first places in the number of speakers in the world, so it would be advisable to work with them as well. In 2020, the portal will continue its work and will delight readers with new interesting materials and projects,” Lazba promised.
