Russian doctors will provide comprehensive assistance to Abkhazian colleagues in the fight against the spread of coronavirus infection.

The delegation of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation arrived in Abkhazia with the aim of interaction in the provision of medical care and in accordance with the previously reached agreements, the press service of the Ministry of Health of Abkhazia reported. Russia will provide assistance to Abkhazia in the situation with the spread of COVID-19 in terms of equipment and medicines, personal protective equipment, medical supplies.

At the end of this week, specialists will start installing and setting up a CT, which will be put into operation in the second half of August.

 Members of the delegation of the Russian Ministry of Health familiarised themselves with the activities of the intensive care units of the Gudauta hospital, discussed issues of sanitary and epidemiological regime, routing, visited the hospital's infectious unit, the “red” zone, assessed the stock of personal protective equipment and medicines.

Representatives of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation highly appreciated the organization of work in the Gudauta hospital for patients with COVID-19 and emphasized their readiness to provide comprehensive assistance to Abkhazia.

 “A relevant order will be issued for the Krasnodar Region on patient routing. And we are talking not only about tourists who arrive in Abkhazia. In case of illness, our patients will also be sent to the infectious diseases hospital in the city of Sochi, they will be provided with specialized assistance,” the Minister of Health of Abkhazia Tamaz Tsakhnakia said at the end of the meeting with Russian colleagues.

Earlier, Russian media reported that Russia is doing everything necessary to protect tourists from the coronavirus who come to rest in Sochi and Abkhazia. Vacationers will be provided with medical assistance if necessary, said earlier the Minister of Health of Russia Mikhail Murashko during a working trip to Sochi.

 “We are additionally deploying housing in Sochi for patients in case we have to take tourists and vacationers directly to the territory of Russia,” he said.

During the visit of Russian representatives to Abkhazia, an agreement was reached that in the near future the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation will determine a group of doctors and medical personnel who will be sent to Abkhazia to work in the Gudauta hospital.

According to the Headquarters, over the past 24 hours, testing for coronavirus was carried out in 88 citizens of Abkhazia, the diagnosis of COVID-19 was confirmed in nine of them.

At the moment, 36 patients with confirmed coronavirus infection are in the Gudauta Central District Hospital.

The total number of detected cases of coronavirus in Abkhazia today is 107 people. Of these, 37 recovered, three died.

The Abkhazian-Russian state border has been open since August 1. In the first two days alone, more than 30 thousand tourists arrived in Abkhazia from Russia.
