Chairman of the Supreme Council of the World Abaza Congress Mussa Ekzekov held an online meeting with members of the Supreme Council of the WAC. The meeting summed up the results of the outgoing year and outlined tasks for 2024.
The meeting of the Supreme Council of the World Abaza Congress was held online. The following members of the Supreme Council of the WAC attended the meeting: from Abkhazia - Viacheslav Chirikba and Dzhambul Indzhgia, from Karachay-Cherkessia - Murat Mukov, Mukhadin Aubekov and Umar Konchev, from Turkey - Murat Gechba, Mehmet Inapshba and Shamil Eshba. The meeting was also joined by Beslan Kobakhia, a member of the Supreme Council of the WAC from Moscow, and the head of the RPO NCA “Abaza” of the Stavropol Region “Abaza”, a member of the Supreme Council of the WAC Armida Chagova.
Mussa Ekzekov opened the meeting: the Chairman greeted all those present, thanked the WAC and “Alashara” teams for the work done and declared the meeting open. The agenda included three items: information on the work of the WAC for the current year, an activity plan for 2024, and the third item - miscellaneous. The event was moderated by the Executive Secretary of the WAC Inar Gitsba.
The head of the Sukhum office, Temur Rekvava, told about the results of the Congress. The outgoing year is marked by dozens of projects aimed at strengthening ethnocultural unity, preserving and developing the native language, traditions and customs of the Abaza people.
“For 2023, the plan was exceeded - our team held 102 events within various projects, more than 50 settlements in Abkhazia and about 5 thousand people took part in their implementation. The projects covered various areas: history, culture, sports, healthcare, preservation of the native language, education and development of children, landscaping, respect for the environment and ecology,” said Temur Rekvava.
Rekvava noted that over the past year, the Information Department has published more than 3,500 materials in six different languages, and the number of social media subscribers has grown to 24,800 people.
The Chief of staff of the Chairman of the Supreme Council of the WAC, Kan Tania, announced the general cost estimate of the World Abaza Congress.
“Today, the total estimate of the constant monthly administrative expenses of the Congress is one and a half million rubles. Sources of financing expenses for five years of work are donations received from Chairman Mussa Ekzekov for 115 million rubles. The volume of tasks, the number of projects and employees are increasing every year, and expenses are rising accordingly. Therefore, next year we aim to look for additional sources of funding,” he noted.
Tania also informed members of the WAC SC about the work done by the “Alashara” team in Karachay-Cherkessia.
“During the current year, 95 events were held against a plan of 90, covering more than 23 thousand people. The total cost estimate for activities in the Karachay-Cherkess Republic for the year amounted to more than 46 million rubles.”
The results of the work done and plans for 2024 have already been collected and sent to the Congress Office for approval by the Chairman. Next year the plan is to implement even more projects in various areas and, accordingly, reach more people.
“The plans are to expand and strengthen international cooperation with the Abkhaz-Abaza Diaspora around the world. We recently visited the Lebanese Republic, where we discussed the possibility of creating joint projects and opening a local branch. We are committed to increasing efficiency and completing more tasks,” said WAC Executive Secretary Inar Gitsba.
This year, regular elections for the Chairman of the Federation of Abkhazian Cultural Centers took place in Turkey. On behalf of Mussa Ekzekov, the previous leadership of Abkhazfed was sent information about the structure of the work of the Congress and “Alashara”, the experience and plans of the organizations, as well as an invitation to implement joint projects.
With the election of Levent Atryshba, this information was updated and sent to the new leadership. Mussa Ekzekov noted that the need for closer interaction with the Abkhaz-Abaza Diaspora in Turkey is long overdue.
“We are aimed at forming an active team in Turkey in order to carry out the same systematic work there as in Abkhazia and the Abaza villages of the Karachay-Cherkess Republic, perhaps even to a greater extent, because in Turkey the potential of our Diaspora is limitless,” noted the Chairman of the Supreme Council of the WAC.
Summing up the meeting, Mussa Ekzekov once again voiced the fundamental objectives of the organization - the revival of the ethnocultural unity of the Abaza people, the preservation of national identity and the creation of charitable conditions to facilitate the return of representatives of the Diaspora to their historical homeland.
“We not only organize exciting events that bring pleasure, but we create programs that are vital for the preservation of language, culture, history, thereby preserving our ethnicity. These programs contribute to the preservation of traditions, energy and love for one’s neighbor, which should live in each of us,” he emphasized.
At the end of the meeting, the Chairman of the WAC Supreme Council congratulated those gathered on the upcoming New Year, wished them good health and the implementation of all planned plans.
