The operational headquarters reported that the first person in Abkhazia to get coronavirus recovered.

The first COVID-19 sick from Abkhazia recovered, the Operational Headquarters for the Protection of the Population from Coronavirus Infection reported on April 17.  After the course of treatment, the patient was tested twice, according to the results coronavirus was not detected.

The Deputy Head of the Operational HQ, the Deputy Minister of health and social welfare, Alkhas Kondzharia, said that the patient remains in the Gudauta central district hospital under the supervision of doctors, it is planned to discharge him from the hospital in the coming days.

“Two other patients with a confirmed diagnosis of coronavirus infection continue to receive the necessary medication.  A patient born in 1925 continues to remain in self-isolation.  Both have a state without negative dynamics,” said Kondzharia.

He also said that over the past day 10 people have been tested.  The diagnosis of coronavirus has not been confirmed among  any of them.

Since March 24, 2020, the leadership of Abkhazia has taken a set of measures to protect the population of Abkhazia from the coronavirus infection COVID-19 - in particular, mass events were discontinued, educational institutions were disbanded, government agencies were restricted, retail outlets were closed, with the exception of food and essential goods, and  also pharmacies, movement of citizens was limited, a number of other measures have been taken.

Since March 28, a state of emergency has been declared in the Republic: the Abkhaz-Russian border has been temporarily closed for crossing, with the exception of military personnel and diplomats, control over crossing the state border has been strengthened for citizens of Abkhazia returning to the Republic.

The charity movement “We are Together” and representatives of the Moscow Abkhaz Diaspora, newly created by Abkhaz entrepreneurs, announced a fundraiser to help Abkhazia fight the new disease and protect the population of Abkhazia.  To date, nearly 55 million rubles have been raised.
