The IX Abkhaz-Russian Business Forum completed its work in Sukhum. The issues of economic cooperation between Russia and Abkhazia were traditionally discussed there, new products and technologies were presented, round tables on topics relevant to the modern economy and business were held.

According to the President of the Republic, Raul Khadzhimba, who addressed the participants of the events through a welcome letter, the business forum "develops every year, becomes more popular, weighty and more and more aimed at achieving practical results."

The President’s speech also highlighted that the annual business forum plays an important role in the development of economic relations between Abkhazia and Russia, and contributes to the strengthening of relations of alliance and strategic partnership.

Ready to work

Minister of Economy of Abkhazia Adgur Ardzinba addressed the plenary meeting and stressed that over the years the forum has established itself as a platform within which there is a constructive exchange of views on the most pressing issues of Abkhaz-Russian economic cooperation.

“Investment contracts are signed, effective horizontal relations are built,” Ardzinba added.

This year the Russian delegation was headed by Igor Koshin, Deputy Minister for North Caucasus Affairs. At the opening of the forum, he noted that cooperation between the Russian Federation and the Republic of Abkhazia is developing in many areas. Koshin stressed that in 10 years Russia and Abkhazia concluded more than 100 agreements in various spheres of interstate cooperation.

Abkhazian wines, cheese and digital technologies

The Investment Agency of the Republic organized an exhibition of enterprises and organizations of Abkhazia at the forum, where many companies presented their new products.

Thus, “Amra-Bank” presented a mobile application that will allow clients to cooperate with the bank online. “Sberbank of Abkhazia” put out commemorative coins and a “Vladislav Ardzinba” banknote with a par value of 500 apsars, which was issued specifically for the 25th anniversary of the Victory in the Patriotic War of the people of Abkhazia. The stand of the NEM organization, which is developing a blockchain platform, was presented. The exhibition was attended by the Sukhum dairy plant, as well as the special economic zone "Amra", opened in the Gal district. The recently opened “Abkhazvino” winery also presented its products.

“We are pleased to participate in this exhibition. Many forum participants liked our wine a lot. We presented 10 types of wine, and we are very glad that our products were very popular,” said Daut Shulumba, head of the wine department of the plant.

Discussed main topics

Four round tables were held at the site of the IX Abkhaz-Russian Business Forum. The participants discussed foreign economic cooperation between Abkhazia and Russia, in particular, cooperation in the field of tourism, ways to improve the quality of the tourist product. The banking sector was also discussed at round tables as a factor in the growth of the economy of Abkhazia in the context of bilateral interaction. For the first time, a round table on the topic of information technologies and innovations was held as part of the business forum, moderated by the Deputy Minister of Economy of Abkhazia Batal Tarba.

“We specifically this year have provided such a platform in order to discuss issues that are relevant to the global community at the forum. These are issues of building a digital economy, digital transformation and innovative development. We believe that for our country all these issues are relevant,” said Tarba.

Among the participants of the IX Abkhaz-Russian Business Forum were members of the Council of Federation of Russia, heads of the ministries of economy of Donetsk and Lugansk people's republics, business representatives from Armenia and Singapore.

The Abkhaz-Russian business forum has been held since 2009. All this time it is organized by the Ministry of Economy of the Republic of Abkhazia and the Ministry of Economic Development of the Russian Federation with the support of the with the support of the Roscongress Foundation.
