More than 100 schoolchildren from the village of Uarcha underwent a comprehensive medical examination as part of the medical examination project.

WAC continued the medical examination project in the new academic year. Traditionally, it was held in two stages: blood sampling for a general blood test and glucose and a medical examination with the results already received.
Pupils of the Uarcha school were examined by pediatricians Asmat Zukhba and Nadezhda Shapovalova, cardiologists David Bzhinava and Irina Bondareva together with the ECG nurse Luiza Dzhalagoniia, endocrinologists Liana Delba and Radmila Guniia, urologist Yuri Zarandiia, neurologist Khadzharat Taniia, ophthalmologist Alla Aslanyan, and otolaryngologist Ritsa Khalbad. Ultrasound diagnostics doctor Larisa Gabova conducted thyroid examinations for the pupils.
The doctors were assisted in filling out the electronic applications by the WAC staff and volunteers from the medical college Anastasia Vishneva, Elana Gunba, Diana Nersenyan, Alina Khodzhikyan and Artur Avanesov.
Besides students, Nadezhda Tarba, Nart Lomiia, Khamida Zakaraya, Erika Dzhonua and Ada Chkadua took part in the project.
Head of the WAC OSAZ department Izolda Khagba spoke about the resumption of the medical examination and shared the results of the examination.
“The WAC, together with the Ministry of Health of Abkhazia, continues to implement the project. Uarcha is the first village we visited after the summer break. Doctors from the Agudzera military hospital also joined the on-site examination. During the medical examination, no pathologies requiring immediate intervention were detected. The schoolchildren were given recommendations on how to maintain a healthy condition,” she said.
Khagba noted that the organizers are going to hold four more trips this year.
During the day, doctors examined students of different ages, identified health issues and recorded all the data in a single checklist. Some doctors took part in the project for the first time. Among them was neurologist Khadzharat Taniia.
"I am dealing with the medical examination of schoolchildren for the first time. I believe the project is successful, since thanks to it, various health problems are identified at an early stage, which, perhaps, would not have been noticed in a timely manner. I hope that it will cover as many villages in Abkhazia as possible," he noted.
Taniia also shared recommendations for the prevention of neurological health in children.
"The key to a healthy nervous system is about simple rules. And using the example of children from the village of Uarcha, I would like to appeal to parents with a request to monitor the neurological and mental state of their children. Make sure that they spend less time with gadgets, read more, engage in self-development, everything that helps maintain a stable child's psyche," he added.
The head of the Uarcha school, Omar Karkhalava, expressed his profound gratitude to the staff of the WAC and all the doctors for the opportunity to undergo a comprehensive medical examination.
"There are 120 students in our school. Each student could take tests and receive results, undergo a comprehensive medical diagnosis without leaving the school. On behalf of the entire team, I express my gratitude to the WAC staff, doctors and everyone who made this possible," he said.
The medical examination is a joint project of the World Abaza Congress and the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Abkhazia. The project is aimed at providing qualified medical care to students and teachers of rural schools in Abkhazia.
