The World Abaza Congress, together with the S. Chanba Abkhazian State Drama Theatre, launched a new project, within which rural schoolchildren attend performances and discover the world of theatre from the inside.

The first participants of the project were students and teachers of the Tkhina Secondary School. An exciting theater tour was organized for the guests of the capital, which was conducted by actress and honored journalist of Abkhazia Eleonora Kogoniia. She talked about the rules of theater etiquette, what it means to be a spectator and how to show respect for art and performing artists. In addition, the children were explained that the production that the audience sees is the merit of many people and their coordinated work. The schoolchildren looked behind the scenes, met the directors and members of the troupe, learned a lot about the labor-intensive process of creating a performance.

The visit to the theater was timed to coincide with the 75th anniversary of the People's Poet of Abkhazia Ruschbey Smyr. The performance is based on the historical poem "Semra", which tells about the tragic events of the Mukhadzhirstvo and the disappearance of the Ubykh people. The students followed the performance with interest, empathized with the characters and responded emotionally to all the plot twists.

"When the curtain opened, we immediately plunged into a unique atmosphere. The actors perfectly embodied the characters, we felt everything that was happening. Afterwards, we had a long discussion of what we saw, shared our thoughts and emotions, and everyone found something of their own that remained in their souls," one of the young participants in the project shared her impressions.

A visit to the theater became an exciting adventure for the schoolchildren, a great opportunity to broaden their horizons and learn more about the world of art.

"This year, we decided to launch a new project, within the framework of which students from rural schools visit the Abkhazian Drama Theater in Sukhum. We approached the theater director Khibla Mukba with this proposal, who unconditionally supported the initiative, for what we would like to express our profound gratitude to her. In addition to watching the performance, Eleonora Kogoniia gave the children a tour. I am sure that most of the project participants saw the theater backstage for the first time, and it made a great impression on them," said Naur Khishba, a specialist in the WAC department for education, social activity and health care.

Head of the WAC OSAZ Izolda Khagba named the main objectives of the project as introducing the younger generation to theatrical life and promoting the Abkhaz language and literature.

"We believe that raising the spiritual and cultural level of our children is a prerequisite for the upbringing and development of the future generation, and introducing them to theatrical life through acquaintance with the backstage life and history of the theater, visiting a theater cafe, and generally having a pleasant time will inevitably become a vivid impression that will forever remain in the children’s memory. I hope that someone may even think about becoming an actor in the future. We assume that productions in the native language will help strengthen interest in studying it and using it in everyday life," she said.

The director, Honored Artist of Abkhazia and South Ossetia Khibla Mukba, told about the significance of the project.

"We are pleased with the initiative shown by the World Abaza Congress and immediately supported it. As the director and actress of the theater, I want to say that the project is certainly very necessary and important, because it arouses interest in the theater, educates children creatively and promotes language development. I hope children were happy," Mukba noted.

In addition to the tour and a visit to the performance, a delicious treat was organized for the project participants in the theater buffet.
