The final of the Jubilee X International freestyle wrestling tournament for prizes from Mussa Ekzekov was held in Novy Afon.

The final competitions within the framework of the X International Freestyle Wrestling Tournament for prizes from the Chairman of the Supreme Council of the WAC Mussa Ekzekov were held in Novy Afon on Sunday, December 11. The tournament coincided with the 30th anniversary of the WAC and the Congress Convention, which was held on December 7-8 in Abkhazia.

In total, about 130 athletes took part in the Tournament, who competed in three age and 15 weight categories. According to the results of the first day, four wrestlers from each category reached the final. The winner among children was Inal Gegenava from Gudauta, the judges noted his professionalism and wished him success in his sports career. The athlete promised to take part in the Tournament again and win the championship in the next age category.

Daniil Kharchilava came to try his hands from Kaliningrad and became the best in the category of young men in the weight up to 70 kg. According to him, the performance and success at the competitions were preceded by serious training. Daniil noted that his rivals also showed a high level of training, so the competition turned out to be tense and interesting.

A friendly meeting was also held between the winner of the All-Russian freestyle wrestling competitions among juniors, Bagrat Pandaria, and Lithuania freestyle wrestling champion, Arip Abdulaev within the tournament. Abdulaev won the duel.

Igor Sargsyan took first place in the category of adults. He notes the importance of participating in this tournament for every wrestler.

"Thanks to such tournaments, freestyle wrestling in Abkhazia is developing and reaching a new level: today, athletes-winners of regional and international championships took part in the competition. I am sure that very soon Abkhazia will receive its first Olympic champion in this sport," Sargsyan said.

According to Timur Gulia, chairman of the public organization of veterans of the PWPA "Aruaa", participation in the tournament allows athletes from different parts of the world to meet, exchange professional experience and improve their skills.

"It is a great joy for us that so many lovers of freestyle wrestling have gathered in Abkhazia. Thanks to all the athletes for their skills and professionalism, thanks to the coaches who trained them.  Special thanks to the organizers of the tournament, who made this holiday of sports possible," Gulia said.

Chairman of the WAC Supreme Council Mussa Ekzekov appreciated the high level of organization of the tournament and congratulated the champions and their coaches on the victory.

"For two days during which the tournament was going on, we enjoyed a very high level of struggle.  I sincerely want to thank all the organizers, judges, coaches for the excellent work. I especially want to note the coaches: thanks to your tireless work, today we see such professionals," Ekzekov said. 

Addressing the athletes, Mussa Ekzekov noted that the exchange of experience and improvement of skills is exactly the invaluable experience that competitions give.

"No matter which place you took today, you are all winners. I see talent in each of you. I am convinced that each of you will achieve the highest results - both in sports and in life," concluded Ekzekov.

The Chairman of the Supreme Council of the WAC appointed cash prizes for the winners of the Tournament: athletes of all weight categories who took first places received 15,000 thousand rubles each;  the second-placed wrestlers - 10,000 thousand rubles each, bronze medalists of the competition - 5 thousand rubles each. The total prize fund of the Tournament amounted to 525,000 thousand rubles. In addition, the athletes were awarded medals and certificates. The commemorative prizes were sponsored by the "Abaza" sports club and the State Committee of the Republic of Abkhazia for Youth and Sports.

The international freestyle wrestling tournament for prizes from the Chairman of the WAC Supreme Council, a public and statesman, philanthropist Mussa Ekzekov has traditionally been held in Abkhazia since 2011. During this time, hundreds of athletes from Russia and Abkhazia took part in the competition.
