WAC web information portal won the competition of the Union of Journalists of the Republic of Abkhazia and received an award for the best journalistic work.
The laureate of the contest “The Best Journalistic Work of 2019”, held by the Union of Journalists of Abkhazia, was Said Bargandzhia, correspondent of the portal of the World Abaza Congress. His essay “Life in Sculpture: The History of the First Abkhaz Woman-Sculptor Marina Eshba” received the first prize in the nomination “Radio, news agencies, online publications”.
Commenting on the event, the Chairman of the Supreme Council of the World Abaza Congress Mussa Ekzekov noted that the WAC portal has become a well-known and significant information resource for all those who appreciate the culture, traditions and history of Abkhaz and Abaza, are interested in their current life.
“The high marks of our colleagues are not only a cause for joy, but also a sign that we need to set new goals and raise the bar higher. The portal’s objectives remain unchanged: to become a center of attraction for the Abkhaz-Abaza Diaspora around the world,” Mussa Ekzekov recalled.
The Chairman of the Supreme Council of the WAC congratulated the winner as well.
“I am glad that the tasks of the World Abaza Congress are solved by such talented journalists as Said Bargandzhia. I believe that his success is a victory for the whole team. With all my heart I congratulate Said,” said Mussa Ekzekov.
The author of the award-winning essay, journalist and spokesperson for the WAC, Said Bargandzhia, is also a presenter on the Abkhaz television. He shared that the award has become especially valuable for him: firstly, this is the first time his work participates in the competition, and secondly, as the journalist believes, the multilingual edition of the WAC today carries an extremely important mission.
“I was especially pleased to receive an award for material published on our information portal. The publication, which speaks in six languages about prominent Abkhaz and Abaza, enables our compatriots in different countries to learn about people like [the heroine of the essay] Marina Eshba in the language they speak,” said Bargandzhia.
He also noted the work of the entire team of employees of the information portal of the WAC and, in particular, the photographer Naala Avidzba, the editor Olga Soldatenkova and the head Amina Lazba.
“Behind such work is always a few people. The photographer Naala Avidzba, who managed to put together a unique photo archive, the editor Olga Soldatenkova, who always has a subtle sense of everything that I wanted to say, and, of course, our leader, Amina Lazba, for whom there are never little things, had a hand in this material. Amina is there for the entire time of working on the material,” the journalist emphasized.
The head of the information portal of the World Abaza Congress, Amina Lazba, in turn, promised that the team will continue to delight readers with interesting materials and projects.
“Thank you colleagues for your attention to our work!” thanked Lazba.
The annual competition of the Union of Journalists of Abkhazia is held in honor of the Day of Media Workers. Among the winners of this year are employees of various mass media of the Republic. So, in the nomination “Television”, the cycle of programs “Independence” of the journalist of the Abkhaz television Naala Mukba was recognized as the best work. In the “Periodical Press” nomination, the first prize was awarded to the oldest employee of the newspaper “Apsny” Boris Kadzhaya for the material “Modern Fable”.
