The project includes a two-day intensive course, where social design specialists Lana Chkadua and Mate Tskvitariia share basic knowledge with participants, explaining why and for what purpose it is important to obtain it. The training will last two days: the first day includes theoretical knowledge, and on the second day, participants are divided into teams and try to create their first project.
In the new academic year, the social design project started in Duripsh Secondary School. For two days, participants learned to identify problems, draw up a budget, create a project and present it. Trainer Lana Chkadua noted that among the schools where the training has already taken place, a certain focus of projects is observed.
"Since this is our fourth meeting, we can observe a certain trend among the problems that students describe as the most important and significant in their school life. Based on this, we are already outlining certain plans for the future, which we could use to allow them to think deeper," she said.
The main ideas for implementation were improvement of the school territory or recreation area, provision of sports equipment, and creation of a dance club at the school. Project manager, specialist of the WAC department for youth development and physical education Esma Kvitsiniia noted the successful implementation of the project.
"Trainings have already been held in Tkuarchal, Adzyubzha, Mgudzyrkhua and Duripsh villages. School initiative groups at the local level are already implementing the projects adopted by the commission. I hope that the first experience will inspire all participants to further study project activities, and they will continue to identify and solve problems in a broader context, based on their needs and wishes," Kvitsinia noted.
At the end of the second day, the teams held a final presentation of their projects. The commission, consisting of invited experts, the project manager and the school administration, reviewed all the initiatives and selected the winner. Thus, a project to build a sports ground will be implemented for the Duripsh School.
Vladislav Arsaliia, a member of the winning team, shared his impressions of the intensive course.
"It’s not every day that public organizations come to us and offer their help. I thank everyone who conducted the training for us. For two days, we worked with very friendly people who made it very comfortable and interesting for us," he said.
The trainings based on social design are a joint project of the WAC and the State Committee for Youth Affairs and Sports. The project is being held in the towns and villages of Abkhazia for high school students with the aim of involving them in project activities, developing their thinking and creative process. The organizers plan to hold two more trainings in 2024.
