Mussa Ekzekov addressed his compatriots on behalf of the World Abaza Congress and on his own behalf and “cordially congratulated everyone on the Day of the State Flag of the Republic of Abkhazia!”

He noted that on July 23, 1992, in a difficult socio-political situation, the Supreme Council of Abkhazia, chaired by Vladislav Ardzinba, approved the State Flag and the State Emblem of Apsny.

 “This has become a truly historic event that has become one of the most important stages of the national liberation movement,” he added.

Mussa Ekzekov also recalled that on June 3, 2005, the second President of Abkhazia, Sergey Bagapsh, signed amendments to the Law “On memorable days and holidays in the Republic of Abkhazia”, ​​which establishes July 23 as the Day of the State Flag of the Republic of Abkhazia.

In his congratulations, the Chairman of the Supreme Council also emphasized that during the 1992-1993 Patriotic War of the people of Abkhazia, the state flag became the main banner of Victory, and “today it is the main motivator for the successful development of a modern state.”

“It is important to note that in native Abazashta, the Day of the Flag and the Day of Culture of the Abaza people are traditionally also celebrated on this day, demonstrating the unity of the people to the whole world. Our beautiful flag is a symbol that unites all representatives of the Abkhaz-Abaza (Abaza) people, regardless of their place of residence. Dear brothers and sisters, on this holiday, I wish you and your loved ones prosperity and harmony!” Said Mussa Ekzekov.

The modern state flag of the Republic of Abkhazia was approved by the session of the Supreme Council of the Republic of Abkhazia on July 23, 1992 in the town of Akua (Sukhum), after the decision was made to terminate the 1978 Constitution of the Abkhaz ASSR and restore the 1925 Constitution of the Abkhaz SSR.  Since 2005, the Day of the State Flag of the Republic of Abkhazia has been officially celebrated as a holiday on July 23. On this day, mass festivities are held in Abkhazia.
