The first football championship among schoolchildren of the Ochamchira district ended this Sunday, September 29.

Fourteen teams of the Ochamchira district played games at mini-grounds in the villages of Adzyubzha, Tamysh, Kutol, Markula, Gup and in Ochamchira for six months. Altogether, 130 children aged 9-10 took part in the tournament.

The initiator of the championship was the Youth and Sports Department of the Ochamchira District Administration. One of the sponsors that supported the tournament was the World Abaza Congress.

The closing ceremony of the championship took place on the football pitch of Ochamchira. The event was timed to coincide with the 30th anniversary of Victory and Independence Day of Abkhazia. The head of the Youth and Sports Department of the Ochamchira District Administration, Timur Pachulia, addressed the participants, organizers and guests of the ceremony with a welcoming speech. He thanked everyone who helped organize the tournament.

“The championship, which took place with the support of many people, became an important and useful event for the district. Throughout the tournament, we saw how these children grow and get stronger with each game, how their eyes light up. We hope that next year there will be more teams, especially rural ones. This means that the championship will last longer,” Pachulia noted.

Esma Kvitsinia, specialist of the WAC Department for Youth Development and Physical Culture, expressed her readiness to continue to support such projects.

“On behalf of the Chairman of the Supreme Council of the WAC Mussa Ekzekov and the entire team, I express gratitude for holding such a significant event for the republic. For our part, we are always ready to support initiatives aimed at the development of our youth and hope that such competitions will become annual,” noted Kvitsinia.

According to the results of the tournament, Ochamchira School No. 2 took first place, second place was occupied by the team from the village of Tkhina, and the village of Baslakhu took the third place. The prize for all tournament participants will be a trip to Sochi to attend the Russian Premier League match between the legendary Zenit and the Sochi Football Club, which will take place on October 7 at the Fisht stadium.
