Participants of the environmental campaign competed in quickest collecting and sorting garbage. In just 20 minutes, 76 kilograms of waste were collected.
The coastal territory of the Gumista River was chosen as the venue for the "Clean Games". Armed with gloves and bags, the competitors began to collect and sort garbage. Glass, plastic, paper, metal - the teams were awarded points depending on the category of waste and their quantity. Statistics were conducted in real time on the official website of the competition. According to young activists, games for them are a chance to show concern for their homeland.
"We are the youth, so the future is in our hands. Therefore, we must make every effort to ensure that our country prospers. Then, it is interesting to participate in the games, this is the spirit of competition and new acquaintances," said Laura Mikhalenko, a participant in the project.
"If I can do something for the benefit of my country, I want to use every opportunity for this. Besides, I came here with my friends. Why not take part?" added Mila Pipia, another participant of the project.
The environmental action was organized by the staff of the World Abaza Congress Kherson Simonia and Shazina Bganba, as well as the founder of the initiative group "World of Equal Opportunities" Alias Akaba. Financial expenses were covered by the Interregional public organization of ecological and patriotic education "Clean Games". The idea of holding a quest in Abkhazia arose at the X Nevsky International Ecological Congress, which was held in St. Petersburg this spring.
"We believe that such actions are necessary for the republic, because our beautiful nature needs care and attention. So far, we are taking the first steps. In the future, we hope to work more closely and comprehensively in this direction," said the specialist of the WAC Department for work with local branches Kherson Simonia.
The practical part of the games was preceded by the theoretical part. Stella Tikhonova, a curator from St. Petersburg, shared her experience of holding the competition: to make the event more effective, it is necessary to choose the right place and time, attract as many participants as possible, train volunteers, and learn how to work with the website and mobile application. The premises for the theoretical part were provided by the Representative Office of Rostrudnichestvo in Abkhazia.
"This year we have planned the Eurasian Cleanliness Cup, which takes place in ten CIS countries. We are conducting an internship so that a pilot Cup will be held in the fall, and here we train future organizers of the games in Abkhazia. Everywhere there is a field for activity, you can clean up everywhere," said Stella Tikhonova.
The result of the event was a great mood and 76 kilograms of collected garbage, some of which will be sent for recycling. The games ended with awards for those who collected the most amount of waste.
