More than 200 participants, 17 prize winners, competitive spirit and an exciting atmosphere – the Sukhum swim for the third time brings together athletes and swimming enthusiasts.

The competition program included 100, 200 and 500 meter swims for children under 16 and 500, 1000 and 3000 meter swims for adults. The participants started from the Apra pier early in the morning and finished on MarNero beach closer to midday.
The first among women in the 3000 meter race with a result of 54 minutes was 17-year-old athlete Roksana Gilyazetdinova. Among men, the first to finish was Evgeny Sabirov from Belgorod. His result was 58 minutes. The winners in the 1000 meter race were Alexander Kravets and Elizaveta Varnavskaya. Gleb Yablokov and Anna Kvashak were the first to finish in the 500 meter race.
The competition was held among athletes and amateurs not only from Abkhazia, but also from different cities of Russia. The following swimming styles were allowed at the competition: breaststroke, butterfly, freestyle, backstroke.
As the head of the Triathlon Federation in Abkhazia Boris Bartsyts noted that the interest in the swim is increasing every year, and the geography of participants will expand accordingly.
"It is gratifying that there are more and more participants. The oldest participant in the is 80 years old. And he showed the best example to the younger generation. We managed to ensure their safety during the swim together," he shared.
This year, participation in the swim was paid for the first time. All proceeds will be sent to the treatment of Fridonna Avidzba, a seriously ill ward of the "Ashana" cultural and charitable foundation.
For the first time, the winners were encouraged with cash prizes in the amount of 15, 10 and 5 thousand rubles. The WAC department for youth development and physical education provided assistance in preparing the prizes.
"The World Abaza Congress pays special attention to the development of physical culture among young people. We are certainly pleased with every sporting event in our country. SwimSukhum is a holiday for everyone who loves sports, regardless of age and profession. Mass sports are the best propaganda of a healthy lifestyle," said Esma Kvitsinia, a specialist in the WAC department for the development of youth and physical culture.
The organizers of the competition are the Triathlon Federation of Abkhazia together with A-Mobile, the State Committee for Youth and Sports, the Department of Youth and Sports of the Sukhum Municipal Administration, as well as the WAC department for the development of youth and physical culture.
