COVID-19 patient died in Gudauta District Central Hospital, she was 95 years old.

A patient born in 1925 died in the morning of April 26 from complications caused by COVID-19, as well as multiple concomitant chronic diseases. This was reported by the Operational HQ for the protection of the population from coronavirus infection.

According to the chief therapist of the Ministry of Health of Abkhazia, Angela Archelia, at the time of admission to the Gudauta hospital, a 95-year-old patient was diagnosed with bilateral polysegmental pneumonia coupled with concomitant diseases - pronounced hypertension, chronic renal failure.

“Against the background of the therapy, an x-ray improvement was achieved, however, the general condition of the patient constantly remained difficult, which was complicated by old age,” the doctor explained.

The patient received all the necessary medical care, including the prevention of thromboembolic complications characteristic of the course of coronavirus infection, as provided for by the WHO protocols.

“Doctors did everything necessary, but, unfortunately, due to her age, they could not cope with the disease,” summed up Angela Archelia.

The patient was diagnosed with COVID-19 on April 11, but she refused hospitalization for more than a week, giving her consent only on April 20 after a significant worsening of her condition.
