Mussa Ekzekov laid flowers at the Piskarevskoye Memorial Cemetery

Today, thousands of Petersburgers and guests of the city came to the Piskarevskoye Memorial Cemetery to honor the memory of the defenders and residents of besieged Leningrad.

Representatives of the Abkhaz-Abaza Diaspora of St. Petersburg, headed by the Chairman of the Supreme Council of the WAC, Mussa Ekzekov, took part in the laying ceremony.

More than 600 soldiers from Abkhazia and about 800 from Karachay-Cherkessia fought for Leningrad. Memorial plaques were installed on the Alley of Memory of the Piskarevskoye Cemetery in their honour.

On behalf of the head of the Karachay-Cherkess Republic Rashid Temrezov and the People's Assembly (Parliament) of the Karachay-Cherkess Republic, the participants of the ceremony laid wreaths at the memorial to the fallen natives of the Karachay-Cherkess Republic.

Flowers and a wreath from the World Abaza Congress were also laid in memory of the Abkhazian soldiers who defended Leningrad.
