Without forgetting the past: Abkhazia commemorated the Day of Remembrance of the Victims of the Caucasian War.
On May 21, Abkhazia commemorates the Day of Remembrance of the Victims of the Caucasian War. Mourning rallies are also held in the countries of compact residence of the Abkhaz-Adyg Diaspora.
As part of the memorial events, a torchlight procession was held in Sukhum. Its participants headed from the Sergei Bagapsh Square to the Monument to Mukhadzhirs on the embankment. Young people wearing national dresses carried Abkhazian and Adyg flags, torches and family amulets in their hands.
The team of the World Abaza Congress also took part in the memorial events. Every year, the Congress staff makes a memorial candle - ashamaka. Traditionally, it is lit on the embankment along with the "Nart fire".
After lighting the candles, all those present were given unburned wax threads.
At the end of all the events wreaths were launched into the water in memory of the victims of the Caucasian War.
